Back in 2007, Interscholastic Equestrian Association Co-founders Roxane Durant and Wayne Ackerer recommended the IEA recognize our senior members in a significant manner. With board approval, an annual $15,500 scholarship fund was established. These scholarships have been awarded each year at National Finals to the top two placing seniors in each individual class.
However, due to the unforeseen circumstances that caused IEA National Finals to be canceled this year, the same system could not be used for distributing this year’s funds. The Board of Directors approved an alternate plan for distributing scholarship funds that gave all seniors, regardless of whether or not they qualified to compete at National Finals, the opportunity to apply for these scholarship awards – thus distributing the money to a wider pool of recipients.
Each senior was required to compete a short application and awards were distributed based largely upon the number of years of involvement as well as sportsmanship awards received during their IEA years. A total of 309 Seniors applied for the Founders Awards.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the following 31 recipients of the 2019-2020 IEA Founders College Scholarship Awards.
Each of these riders were seven-year members of IEA and had received at least one sportsmanship award during a regular IEA season.
At the top of the awards list and receiving a $2,500 Founders College Scholarship is Bridget Vieau, a 4-time IEA Sportsmanship Award recipient.
