Hunt Seat competitions for grades 4–12.

Our kids are always hunting for a seat.

The best seat in the house is not in front of the big screen TV, but on a horse.
Give your child a leg up without having to own a horse.

  • Open to riders in grades 4-12.
  • Horse and tack assembled for all competitions by Host Team(s).
  • 2 Hunt Seat Classes Offered – Equitation on the Flat and Over Fences.
  • 4 Ability Levels for Equitation on the Flat: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate and Open.
  • Flat classes may include patterns for upper levels.
  • 3 Ability Levels for Over Fences: Novice, Intermediate and Open.
  • 4th or 5th grade riders can now be POINT RIDERS on middle school (Futures) teams and compete in any eligible division level.
  • Over fences classes include cross-rails, 2’ and 2’6” jumps.
  • ASTM/SEI Helmets are mandatory for all Hunt Seat riders.
  • Zone and National Scholarship Awards available.
  • Competition season 2022-23:  August 1 – April 30.
  • The 2023 IEA Hunt Seat National Finals will be held April 26 – April 30, 2023 at Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon, NC.

Membership for the 2022-2023 Season is now open!

NEW:  Teams and Individuals may sign-up for the 2022-2023 season beginning in June 2022.  However, teams that sign up after October 1, 2022 may be limited in the amount of competitions available.  National Finals for Hunt Seat will be held in late April 2023 at Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon, NC. Join early.
